The most recent assignment that was most beneficial for me was the peer review responses.
I thought this assignment helped me see how my peers approached the same assignment. Reading others works let me see other opinions and stand points. I also really apperciated the feedback I recieved. I thought this allowed me to reflect on my own work, then read what my fellow Team AP members had to say.
Learning the major stories that we often allude to in literature through
the allusions presentations led by our classmates was a fun, and informative approach. The morals were easy to understand because they were summed up by students my age who were learning it just as fast as I was. Each group had different ways of teaching the class their stories, so eventhough we spent a lot of time on the subject, it always remained interesting. After learning these things it reminded me of when I originally learned about Greek mythology; Freshmen year in Ms. Huntley's class. When I learned about Greek mythology I could reconnect the stories of Odyseuss, and I finally realized what she was trying to teach us. I like how I can always connect everything I learn to my past experiences.
I totally agree with you about the peer responses. They were informative and gave me some tips on future blog posts. One thing I will say, though, is that I felt they were too tame. The peer responses I got didn't always give harsh (or detailed) criticism, but just some surface errors with my essay.
ReplyDeleteThe story presentations were certainly fun, weren't they! It was nice to have some time in class just to hear about other tales (as opposed to the majority of classes, wherein we discuss works).
Fully agree on the peer responses. For me, they told me how I measured up against my peers. It told me were I went wrong and right and most importantly were I can improve. This is helpful for further blog posts as I can try to make them better. Especially for the open prompt ones, as we have to write a very similar essay on the AP test. As for the presentations I was absent on for one of the days. But the day I was in class, it was made easier by the students retelling it in their language. For the most part a peer to peer approach seems to go a long way in this class as many of the concepts can be abstract to many. I few can understand and spread the understanding in a easier way to understand then it is helpful for all of us.
ReplyDeleteYou have a few typos that you need to watch out for (i.e. "eventhough" and "aperciated").
ReplyDeleteI also thought that the peer responses were really helpful, but I agree with Sam in that they weren't always detailed enough to be very beneficial.
In my class, I actually found the allusions presentations to be a bit hard to follow. I think it may have been more effective if I would have just looked up the topics myself, but it was much more efficient to do it that way.
